Khabib Nurmagomedov has taken a swipe at a journalist after being questioned about the impact of losing his father as the lightweight champion insisted he is ‘human too’.
The undefeated star, 32, goes into his title fight with Gaethje without his father, Abdulmanap, in his corner after the 58-year-old died from coronavirus earlier this year.
Abdulmanap was a key figure in Nurmagomedov’s rise to the summit of the UFC, and this month’s match-up with Gaethje will be the first time he competes without his father’s support.

The Dagestani star is back in action on Fight Island and is determined to fulfil his late father’s wish for him to take on UFC legend Georges St-Pierre before retiring from the sport.
And there have been murmurings about the possible impact that his father’s absence will have on the all-conquering star. However, Nurmagomedov has expressed his frustrations about being continuously questioned about ‘how difficult’ the loss of his father has been on preparations for the fight.
‘I don’t understand when people ask me “how difficult for you to train without your father?”‘ he vented.

‘Of course this is difficult, I don’t understand why you guys keep asking me this. This is very difficult.
‘What do you think, do you have your father? (Journalist: Yes I do). If something happened with him, what do you think, it’s going to be difficult for you or easy? I am human too, of course it is very difficult.’
Nurmagomedov is facing his toughest challenge yet in Gaethje, who looked in phenomenal shape when he defeated Tony Ferguson in May to win the interim title.
He also revealed that Dana White promised him ‘something special’ if he wins at UFC 254
The lightweight champion knows that a win over The Highlight will move him one step closer to GSP, and has revealed that UFC chief Dana White hinted that he has ‘something special’ for the Dagestani should he overcome Gaethje.
‘Dana told me, after this fight, he has something special for me,’ Nurmagomedov revealed. ‘But I told him “please keep this. After [this] fight, we’re going to talk”.
‘He said they have big things after this fight for me.’
