A handful of top golfers are in danger of missing the cut line at the 2020 Masters on Friday.
The top of the leaderboard at Augusta National is full of low scores, padded by the soft conditions during Thursday’s Round 1 following morning showers that briefly suspended play. That includes Day 2 leader Paul Casey, shot a 7-under 65 to set the pace Thursday. He leads a group of Webb Simpson, Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele, who enter Friday in second place at 5 under. Defending Masters champion Tiger Woods is in a tie for fifth at 4-under par.
Former major winners Brooks Koepka (+2) and Jordan Spieth (+2) were unable to take advantage of the friendly conditions and could find themselves on the chopping block Friday with more stringent cut rules in place at Augusta.
There are 92 players in the 2020 Masters field after Sergio Garcia and Joaquin Niemann withdrew due to positive COVID-19 tests.

Masters cut rules
There is a rule change in play to make the cut at the Masters in 2020. Only the top 50 players (plus ties) on the leaderboard will remain for Saturday and Sunday, a new hard cut put into place by Augusta officials to keep the field small due to limited daylight in November.
Since 2013, any player within 10 strokes of the clubhouse leader after 36 holes would move on to Round 3 in addition to the top 50 automatic qualifiers.
The new rule ensures the Masters cut is now the most difficult of golf’s four majors. The top 60 players make the cut at the U.S. Open, while the top 70 players make the cut at the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.
