Arsenal could still sign Houssem Aouar before the end of the transfer window.
Mikel Arteta has made no secret of his desire to improve his playing squad before the deadline on Monday, which could be influenced by the continued absence of playmaker Mesut Ozil.
Aouar would provide the extra creativity that the Gunners have been crying out for in the middle of the park, and they might not have to break the bank as Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas changes his terms.
The update follows the news that Real Madrid and Juventus were interested in beating Arsenal to the signing of the 22-year-old, with the Italian media noting a reduction in his price-tag.
Calcio Mercato have reported that Aulas has requested a minimum offer of €50m, which works out as £45m.
The previous reports had suggested that Arsenal had only climbed up to £35m with their previous offer, but the likely outgoing deal for Lucas Torreira would give them additional funds.
Arteta said when asked about Aouar this week: "I am very confident with what we are trying to do internally.
“The clarity and support that I am finding from everybody at the club to try to improve the team as we can, but most importantly, to get the right balance in the squad for now and the way we want to evolve the squad in the future.
“So, we are all very much aligned. I'm afraid I cannot give you any updates or news."
Having said that, the Spaniard seemed content with the idea that the club will bring in no more players before the transfer window closes, and added: “I am very happy because the way we are acting around the market and the squad, the link between myself, Edu and the board is really good.
“After, in a deal you have three or four parties involved but I’m really happy with the link at the moment. We are trying our maximum, full support from the owners. With what we have, believe me, we will try our best.”
Arsenal hero Ian Wright is desperate to see Aouar join the club while he still can, and picked apart their defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League as the perfect reason why.

Wright told Premier League Productions: “It felt like a training game for Liverpool in respect of Arsenal were saying you can try and get out but we will press you.
“You can see that in Liverpool’s team everyone can move forward because Arsenal were starting so deep but what was evident to me was that we didn’t have that person in midfield who was comfortable enough on the ball until Ceballos came on.
“[They needed] Someone who they can pass the ball to, who is comfortable to receive it with someone on his back, who can pop it off, who can turn it round the corner.
“From there Arsenal can play but we can’t do that at the moment. That’s why it’s imperative we get Aouar from Lyon.”
