Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed manager Mikel Arteta is teaching the team a valuable lesson in becoming a top team – by setting them homework.

The Gunners look like a team reborn under the Spaniard, who has lifted the club since taking over from Unai Emery last December, helping the club win the FA Cup and Community Shield and overseeing two wins at the start of this season.

And his talisman Aubameyang has hailed the impact he is having around the training ground, saying there was a positive atmosphere and that he keeps the players on their toes by dishing out assignments.

The forward admitted the Spaniard has been setting homework for his Arsenal players

‘He brings that atmosphere that everyone feels like being at home,’ he told BBC Sport. ‘We have to do homework as well!’

While Arsenal have a handful of FA Cups added to their trophy room in recent years, they are without a Premier League title since 2004, and the 31-year-old said the team were intent on bringing back the glory days.

‘I think the mentality around the club is going very, very well and everyone is going on the same way. That’s really important. The goal is to bring the club back to where it belongs.’

Aubameyang has two goals in all competitions this season as he hopes to continue his electric form from the last campaign – which saw him net 29 goals in total, helping to deliver the FA Cup against Chelsea by scoring twice in the final.

There were joyful scenes at Wembley in August as he hoisted the trophy – but infamously dropped it during the celebrations.

The former Dortmund man even poked fun at himself after winning the Community Shield last month as he strapped it into a seatbelt on the coach home.

Aubameyang has reflected on the hilarious moment when he dropped the FA Cup in August

When asked about how he managed to fumble the famous silverware, he said: ‘I don’t know! I remember one guy was at my back, a guy from the FA, and he was wearing a mask so I asked him: “Should I take everything?”

‘He said “No, just leave the base” and I understood “take the base”. I took everything and was like, “it’s heavy, so heavy!”‘

Next up for Arsenal is a home game against struggling Sheffield United. A 3-1 defeat to reigning champions Liverpool disrupted a positive start to the campaign after wins over Fulham and West Ham, but the Gunners got their revenge against the Reds by knocking them out of the Carabao Cup on penalties.
