  • But the Spaniard is confident things have changed under Ronald Koeman

Sergio Busquets says he is still processing Barcelona’s dreadful 2019-2020 season but is adamant the situation has improved under new boss Ronald Koeman.

After allowing their lead over Real Madrid to slip at the top of LaLiga, Barca suffered a humiliating 8-2 defeat by Bayern Munich in the Champions League and ended the campaign without a trophy.

The Catalans then endured a turbulent summer with captain Lionel Messi attempting to force through a move away from the club.

Messi ended up staying and although he aired his anger at the treatment of former team-mate Luis Suarez, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner has since called for unity.

Busquets, who came in for fierce criticism from the Spanish media following Barca’s defeat by Bayern, admitted he is still coming to terms with the last few months but believes the club has a great opportunity to move forward under their new manager.

‘One thing is what happens outside, which is not the best moment of the club. And another what happens in the field, which was not our best year and it shows at an individual and collective level.

‘If I stopped to give my opinion carefully, it could be five or six hours. On the field it was not our best year.

‘Soccer is a team sport and if you are not well collectively, you will not be individually.

‘But it has already happened and we have a new opportunity. Things have changed and we hope it will get better’.

Barca are currently unbeaten in LaLiga after three games with two wins and one draw.
