Mesut Ozil could still earn a huge amount for money for Arsenal this season – despite not playing for the Gunners.
The German appears to have been ostracised from Mikel Arteta’s side, having failed to make an appearance since lockdown.
And he will not be appearing in red and white on the continent either as the 31-year-old was not included in the Europa League squad.
One title he does still hold, though, is biggest earner in north London as Ozil has one more year left on his £350,000-a-week contract.
And it means that the midfielder will still be able to earn a big pay packet, even if he does not play a minute of football.
The Sun reported over the summer that the German is happy to see his current contract out for the remaining nine months.
At £350,000 per week, this round up to £18m earned throughout the year from June 30 2020, more than £2,000 per hour.
But that fee will rise by £8m after receiving a “loyalty bonus”, according to The Athletic .
It was a clause in his deal when the German arrived from Real Madrid in 2013 for £42.5m, meant to convince the 31-year-old to stay in north London.
This brings the total fee for Ozil’s services for the 2020/21 campaign to £26m – but there are some minor savings based on appearances bonuses.
And this fee could be a reason why the midfielder could reject an offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.
But the German has made it clear he wants to stay in north London until his time is up.
He told The Athletic in August: “My position is clear.

“Situations like these will never break me, they only make me stronger. I showed in the past that I can come back into the team and I will show it again.”
