Manchester United star Paul Pogba reportedly helped convince Ousmane Dembele to join the club.
The Red Devils are pushing for a late loan deal after failing to land Jadon Sancho this summer.
Dembele was reportedly unwilling to consider a move to United, months after also snubbing a temporary switch to Liverpool.
But Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo say Pogba has helped change that stance, personally calling his fellow countryman and international team-mate.
The United midfielder is said to have told Dembele that he can enjoy greater continuity at United over Barcelona, due to the emergence of Ansu Fati and Francisco Trincao at the Nou Camp.
Dembele was included in the matchday squad for Barcelona's 3-0 win over Celta Vigo on Thursday night.
However, the 23-year-old was snubbed in favour of Pedri and Trincao – who Ronald Koeman played ahead of the Frenchman due to their defensive capabilities.
"If I thought that [Dembele should leave] then I wouldn't have included him in the squad, but he was in the squad," Koeman said, when asked if he was issuing a message to the World Cup winner.
"It was a match where it had been 1-0 for a while and there were tired players.
"I think that Pedri and Trincao are players who can provide more defensively than Ousmane. That was the decision, it was in that sense.
United continue to seek a late loan deal for the injury-prone winger, who has struggled to stay fit at Barcelona since leaving Borussia Dortmund.
But Barcelona chiefs have denied talks have taken place.
