Jadon Sancho admits he is going through a slight dip in form right now, but not because of his failed move to Manchester United in the summer.
United reportedly identified Sancho as their top transfer target in the previous window, only for Borussia Dortmund’s £108million asking price to prove out of their reach in the current climate.
As a result, the England international has stayed put in Germany at least until the window reopens in January.
He has not got off to the best start this season, scoring just two goals in his first nine appearances and drawing blank so far in Bundesliga.
The 20-year-old did register his first England goal in more than year on Thursday night, nevertheless, netting their second in a 3-0 win over Ireland at Wembley.
And after the victory, Sancho insisted it is normal for players to have a “little dip in their career” – while refusing to pin the blame on talk of a summer move to United.
When asked if the transfer speculation has distracted him, the youngster told ITV Sport: “Nah, I don’t think so.
“I feel like every player has a little dip in their career, and I feel I’m going through that at the moment.
“It is just how I’m bouncing back and I am just happy to have managers who have faith in and keep sight of me.”
He then added: “I’m just happy to be starting for England. Every time I play I just try to do my best and luckily today I got the goal. I’m happy to help the team again.
“I expect a lot from myself personally. When I play I try to assist and score, and help the team.

“For a couple of games I haven’t been assisting or scoring but I knew I had the chance to do that.”
Reports suggest United could come back in for Sancho next summer, although they are set to officially add 18-year-old winger Amad Diallo to their ranks in January after sealing a £36million move for the Atalanta star on transfer deadline day.
