Leicester have completed the signing of Wesley Fofana from St Etienne on a five-year deal.

The 19-year-old defender joins for an initial £32million – which could rise to £36m with add-ons – ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

It ends the Foxes’ interest in James Tarkowski after they had a bid worth over £30m rejected for the Burnley centre-back last month.

The 19-year-old defender has moved to the King Power Stadium on a five-year contract

Fofana has been Leicester’s prime target throughout the summer and they finally landed their man on Friday as he posed for pictures at his new club.

After being unveiled as a Leicester player, the French-born defender said: ‘I’m very happy to be here. I’ve watched Leicester City closely since they won the title and they’re a top club in the Premier League.

‘I know I will learn a lot from the players and the manager here, which is one of the main reasons I came. I can’t wait to get started.’

St Etienne had been reluctant to part ways with the highly-rated 19-year-old but confirmed earlier this week he would be sold to Leicester after they received the largest transfer fee in their history.

Fofana said one of the main reasons he joined was because of the manager and players

Leicester were also interested in Burnley’s James Tarkowski, but had a £30m bid rejected

The French side, coached by former Leicester boss Claude Puel, have now asked agents to find a suitable replacement for the 6ft 3ins Fofana. They have already discussed Bafode Diakite at Toulouse.

Tarkowski has returned to training at Burnley with the Turf Moor club believing their asking price won’t be met for the 27-year-old.

Leicester, meanwhile, are in talks with Lyon over the sale of forward Islam Slimani.

The Algerian has 12 months left on contract and Lyon are trying to sign him for free. Premier League new boys West Brom are also monitoring his situation.
