Liverpool could be faced with yet another injury setback in defence with Andy Robertson doubtful for Scotland’s UEFA Nations League fixture with Slovakia on Sunday.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke said Robertson has picked up a hamstring issue.

It’s the last thing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wanted to hear with fellow defenders Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold already sidelined.

Klopp will hope left-back Robertson is left out of Scotland’s team in Trnava as a precaution and he will be fit to face Premier League leaders Leicester City on Sunday.

‘Andy Robertson is the most doubtful out of the ones who have a wee question mark over them,’ Clarke said ahead of Sunday’s game.

Robertson played in Serbia on Thursday night as Scotland secured their place at Euro 2020 with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory following a 1-1 draw.

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic saw his penalty saved by goalkeeper David Marshall after Scotland had scored all five of their kicks.

The Robertson news will come as another unwelcome setback for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

It will be Scotland’s first appearance at a major international tournament since the 1998 World Cup.

A victory in Slovakia, who beat Northern Ireland to secure their Euro 2020 place on Thursday night, will earn Scotland promotion into the elite League A of the Nations League.

Liverpool were already without centre-back Van Dijk and are likely to be so for the remainder of the season after he suffered a serious knee injury in last month’s Merseyside derby with Everton.

Fellow central defender Gomez is likely to miss most of the remainder of the season after needing surgery to repair a tendon in his left knee.

Right-back Alexander-Arnold missed England’s international triple-header this week after limping out of the 1-1 draw at Manchester City with a hamstring injury.
