Man Utd dream XI as club prepare bid for Real Madrid star after Jadon Sancho saga

Manchester United continue to be linked with some of the biggest names in football, despite another arguably disappointing transfer window this summer. Donny van de Beek and Alex Telles were the two main arrivals, with Edinson Cavani joining on a free, while young wingers Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo have been signed as hot prospects.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already appears to be planning ahead to improve his squad after a disappointing start to the season.

The 6-1 thumping at the hands of Tottenham exposed many of their weaknesses, and the Norwegian will be hoping he’s given plenty more cash to fix things up.

So what could their side look like next season or maybe even in January? Here’s a possible dream XI for the Red Devils.

Dean Henderson will likely replace David de Gea by the end of the season as United’s no. 1, having already begun to impress this season.

The current full-back options in Alex Telles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are some of the strongest in the league, on paper.

It is at centre-half where the issues lie for United, and that is why they need to a complete overhaul in that position.

The club are preparing a bid for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, according to Mundo Deportivo, while Kalidou Koulibaly and Dayot Upamecano are also on their shortlist, according to The Athletic.

Donny van de Beek appears to be settling well, and has the potential to make a real name for himself at Old Trafford.

But it remains to be seen whether he makes a good partner for Paul Pogba in the deep-lying midfield role.

The French superstar has also furthered speculation that he could leave next summer by once again openly discussing a move to Real Madrid.

But in an ideal world for Solskjaer, he’d have Pogba and Van de Beek controlling things in the middle.

Fred and Scott McTominay would provide able back-up, while Nemanja Matic is arguably on the decline.

Who other than Bruno Fernandes could play in the no. 10 role, having made it his own since joining in January.

Mason Greenwood should only get better, but he’ll have to shift over to the left to allow for the incoming Jadon Sancho to play in his favoured right-wing role, should he finally make the move from Borussia Dortmund next summer.

And that means Marcus Rashford will return to playing as a striker, with Anthony Martial dropping to the bench.

United’s dream XI: Henderson, Wan-Bissaka, Telles, Koulibably, Varane, Van de Beek, Pogba, Fernandes, Greenwood, Sancho, Rashford.
