Mesut Ozil told he is "yesterday’s news" and won’t play for Arsenal again

Mesut Ozil is “yesterday’s news” who will “not play for Arsenal again”, according to club legend Sol Campbell.

The German is set to be forced into exile at the Gunners and get left out of Mikel Arteta’s 25-man squad for the Premier League.

Despite earning a £26m wage packet this season, Ozil has not played for the club since lockdown.

The Gunners have faced criticism, though, for their treatment of the midfielder as legendary boss Arsene Wenger described it as a “waste”.

But Campbell, who won two league titles in nearly 200 appearances for the north London side, believes fans have seen the last of the 32-year-old.

Speaking to GentingBet , the club legend said: “Mesut Ozil is yesterday’s news at the club.

“There is no chance that he will feature for Arsenal again this season, or ever again.

“There have been certain things that have gone on, instances where he has gone against the club, so I don’t see where there is any room for him to come back.”

It comes as Arteta has responded to Wenger’s criticism over his treatment of Ozil.

The Gunners boss said: “I think you have to try to find a way to fit every player with their own qualities.

“This is our job and this is our responsibility with all the players we have to manage.

“Well he wasn’t the only one who’s not in the squad.

“It was a really difficult decision for me to make because to leave players out of the squad at that level where they know they cannot get involved is really tough.

“I don’t like it at all but the decision has to be made because we have a limit on foreign players and unfortunately we have to make that decision.”

Others have criticised Arsenal for taking advantage of a clause in his contract to save millions.
