Solskjaer on Alex Telles’ two standout qualities after Man Utd transfer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has welcomed "fighter and winner" Alex Telles to his Manchester United squad after Old Trafford officials finally got a deal for the left-back over the line.

Telles, 27, has signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford with an option for a fifth, and he is set to challenge both Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams for the first-team slot at left-back.

Formerly of Galatasaray and Inter Milan, the once-capped Brazil international scored 26 goals in 195 appearances in five seasons at Porto, and he joins a United side in need of defensive reinforcements following Sunday's 6-1 hammering by Tottenham Hotspur.

“First and foremost I welcome Alex to United," said Solskjaer.

"He is a player we have been tracking for some time and his performances over the past few years are exactly what we are looking for.

"He is a fighter and a winner and will add real determination and competition to the squad.

"Alex has the qualities, both as a player and as a person, that we want here at Manchester United.”

Telles himself says he was delighted with the move, adding that he can't wait to get started.

“To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour," he said.
