Tottenham ‘optimistic’ they will seal one last transfer to complete Jose Mourinho plan

Tottenham are reportedly optimistic they can complete the signing of Joe Rodon before the October 16 domestic deadline. The Swansea centre-back emerged as a potential target for Spurs on deadline day, when they entered talks with the Championship club for the player.

Spurs have wanted a centre-back all summer, but failed to get one in before the transfer window closed.

Head of recruitment Steve Hitchen flew to Italy to try and broker a deal with Inter Milan for Milan Skriniar.

The player wanted to join the club but Inter wanted £45million for the Slovakian.

Tottenham could not table that kind of money up front and Skriniar eventually stayed at the San Siro.

Other options included Antonio Rudiger on loan but Chelsea were never prepared to strengthen a rival.

That’s when attention turned to Rodon, a player Manchester United have been tracking for the past year.

While Spurs are said to have concerns over his ankle, Daniel Levy is looking to conclude a deal.

According to the Evening Standard, talks between the two clubs are ongoing but there is no deal imminent.

There is still some distance between the two valuations of the player, which is proving to be the hold up.

Tottenham are ready to pay around £8million while Swansea believe he is worth £18m.

Spurs are said to be optimistic that they will wrap the deal up by October 16, which is when the domestic transfer window will officially close.

Rodon was in the starting line up for Wales tonight at Wembley against England.

A centre-back is deemed to be the final piece of the jigsaw for Jose Mourinho in north London.

Tottenham have had a spectacular transfer window having brought in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguilon and Carlos Vinicius.

As it stands, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez are the first-choice pairing with Toby Alderweireld currently out of favour.

Tottenham are reportedly willing to send Swansea Cameron Carter-Vickers as part of any deal.
