Van de Beek urged to demand answers over Man Utd role after latest display

Former Dutch star Rafael van der Vaart has urged Donny van de Beek to demand answers from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about why he can't get a game at Old Trafford.

Van der Vaart, the creative midfielder who spent two years at Tottenham during a glittering playing career that earned him 109 international caps, was furious to hear Van de Beek say he must be patient following his £36million arrival from Ajax in the summer.

The 23-year-old is yet to start a Premier League game – despite United's poor start to the season.

And Van der Vaart believes Van de Beek has to find out why after claiming that inferior players are getting into Solskjaer's team.

Van der Vaart raged: “Wait? Patience? Would you like it if you are stuck on the bench?

“The players in front of you can’t even kick a marble and he (Solskjaer) still does not put you in the team.

“I would not be happy. I would certainly not be enjoying my football there.

“Look at the player Donny is and how he performs at international level. I would not have it.”

Van der Vaart was working as a pundit on Dutch TV when Van de Beek showed his quality with a goal in Holland's 1-1 draw with Spain on Wednesday night.

The midfielder has been in top form for his country and also found the target against Italy last month.

Solskjaer played a key role in the charm offensive that prompted the Dutchman to sign for United.

And the Reds' boss insists the new boy will get a chance to sign once he has settled into his new club.

After returning to score against the Spanish in Amsterdam, Van de Beek said: “I have patience, but I think I have shown when I was playing that I can add something to the team.

“But the boys are great. There is a nice bunch of players at United.”
