Zinedine Zidane contacts Arsenal target Houssem Aouar with Real Madrid move a ‘dream’

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has recently held talks with Lyon star Houssem Aouar regarding a move to the Bernabeu, according to reports. Aouar is Arsenal’s top transfer target heading into deadline day on Monday. However, the Gunners are yet to make an offer Lyon view as acceptable for the 22-year-old.

Reports in recent days have linked Serie A giants Juventus and Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain with Aouar.

But now it appears Real are in the hunt for the attacking midfielder.

L’Equipe, as reported by Get French Football News, claim Zidane has spoken with Aouar recently and that the player would be motivated by a move to Los Blancos.

Real are yet to make any major signings this summer and Zidane has previously stated that will not change before the end of the window.

But the report says signing Aouar is an opportunity he is not prepared to pass up.

Lyon would even entertain the offer of a loan with an obligation to buy next summer.

The news of Real’s interest will come as a blow to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who is prioritising the signing of Aouar.

Arsenal have already seen multiple offers turned down for the former France under-21 international.

Arteta was asked about the potential of signing Aouar at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

The Spaniard refused to be pushed on names but said he was positive about the club’s plans.

“Well, I am very confident in what we are trying to do internally,” Arteta said.

“[I am getting] clarity and support from everybody at the club to try and improve the team if we can.

“But most importantly as well, to get the right balance in the squad, for now and the way we want to evolve the squad in the future.

“We are all very much aligned but I’m afraid that I cannot give you any updates or news.”

Arsenal are also interested in signing Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey.

However, they are not yet willing to pay the 27-year-old’s £45m release clause.

The Gunners have made six signings so far in this window.

Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares had their loan moves made permanent and have been joined by Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes and goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson.

Dani Ceballos has also re-joined on a season-long loan from Real.
