The Eagle Farm stable of Steven O’Dea will become the latest to join the growing trend of training partnerships with the promotion of his assistant Matthew Hoysted.
O’Dea, a top-10 trainer in Queensland, announced on Monday that the stable has been given approval by Racing Australia to train as a partnership from this week.
Hoysted has worked as O’Dea’s assistant for the past four years after joining the stable from Tony Gollan.
“I believe now is the time to make him an official partner,” O’Dea said in a statement.
“I have full faith in Matt’s ability as a trainer, he is a hard working and dedicated horseman with excellent attention to detail.
“He has been an integral part of the team for the last 4 years and his dedication to the job has been such that his progression to co-trainer was inevitable.”
O’Dea believes training in tandem with Hoysted will be hugely beneficial for the stable in years to come.
“It is a relentless seven day a week job that can only be improved by a second set of eyes and hands on board,” he said.
O’Dea and Hoysted will have their first runners as a partnership on Wednesday when Topline lines up in the Ipswichturfclub.com.au Maiden Handicap (1200m).
Express Dreams is also entered at the meeting in the Carlton Mid Class 1 Plate (1710m).
