Bruno Fernandes revealed he was shocked after Manchester United team-mate Aaron Wan Bissaka’s goal against Newcastle as he said: ‘we didn’t know he can shoot!’.

United won their second match of the Premier League season against Steve Bruce’s side despite the worst possible start after an own goal from Luke Shaw in the second minute.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side quickly responded as Harry Maguire headed the visitors level at St James’ Park before Wan Bissaka stole the headlines with a stunner.

Fernandes said ‘we didn’t know he could shoot’ after the defender scored a rare goal

The Newcastle defence finally crumbled late on as Fernandes made amends for a saved penalty earlier in the second half and a goal from the right back and Marcus Rashford topped off a resounding victory.

After the match, Fernandes said that the United players did not know that Wan Bissaka could strike the ball so well.

‘[We were so happy] because we didn’t know he can shoot!’ the midfielder told MUTV. ‘So it’s difficult for us believing he can score because we never see him shooting.

‘We were talking about it now in the dressing room and asking him because we all were thinking he wanted to cross and he makes a bad ball and scores.

‘But I’m happy for him, he deserved the goal and we always ask this from him. Be more positive, be more in the box, try and improve because he has such good qualities.

‘Everyone knows about him being a defensive player and everything but he needs to show that he’s more than a defensive player and I think he has the qualities to show that.’

Before the international break, United were battered by Tottenham 6-1 at Old Trafford and the Portuguese midfielder insisted that a result like that can not happen again.

‘What happened against Tottenham can’t happen again. We play for such a big club and such a big team,’ he said.

‘This club deserves better than that. Everyone needs to be better, starting with me, I need to look at myself first and then at what the group needs to do better.

‘Today it was perfect, after that defeat. I think we need to continue improving, don’t concede goals, as I said before, and keep scoring.’

Bruno Fernandes responds to Man Utd bust-up rumours with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Bruno Fernandes has hit back at reports claiming he is unhappy with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has denied criticising his teammates after Manchester United’s 6-1 defeat to Tottenham.

The Portugal international was understood to have been furious at half time as United were 4-1 down to Jose Mourinho’s side at Old Trafford.

Fernandes was replaced by Solskjaer at the break as United went on to concede two more in the second half.

Subsequent reports have claimed that Fernandes tore into his teammates in the dressing room and openly questioned Solskjaer’s tactics.

Reports this week have also claimed that Fernandes privately has reservations over Solskjaer’s ability to manage United.

But the midfielder has strongly denied those claims.

‘I’m only thankful for the manager because he was the one who wanted me and believed in me. The tactics he uses are perfect for me,’ Fernandes told Sport TV.

‘I believe it is a way to destabilise the group. What was said is in no way true.

‘It’s true the manager decided to take me off against Tottenham but he told me it was because the game was over and we have a lot more to go for.

‘Of course I wasn’t happy about being substituted but I understood it.

‘I didn’t speak out or say anything that could harm the the team.

‘After the match the manager sent me a message wishing me good luck with my games with Portugal.

‘In the dressing room at the end of the game he asked me and a few other players if we thought we needed to say something to the team, offer words of support, but nobody wanted to speak because it wasn’t the best time.

‘If anyone wants to create disharmony at Manchester United don’t use my name or my teammates or manager.

‘The mood is good and obviously we’re sad when we lose but now we have to respond in the next game.’

United are looking to get back on track in their next Premier League game against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Bruno Fernandes has told Alex Telles he can expect a warm welcome from his new Manchester United team-mates following his move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils wrapped up a deal for Telles on transfer deadline day, with the Brazil defender signing a four-year contract at Old Trafford.

Telles, 27, arrives from Porto and has cost Manchester United £15.4million. He became Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s second summer signing following Donny van de Beek.

United’s deadline-day signing has already spoken to new team-mate Fernandes and says he expects to ‘settle in very well’ following his conversation with the Portuguese midfielder.

I believe I’m going to meet a marvellous group,’ Telles told Manchester United’s official website.

I’ve spoken to Bruno Fernandes and he’s said how welcoming the boys are. I believe I will settle very well into the group.

Telles also revealed he spoke to former Porto team-mate Diogo Dalot ahead of his move to Manchester United.

I spoke to Diogo and he sent me a message to wish me good luck,’ Telles added.

United is a big club and I want to help United grow as a football club. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

‘I’m very happy to be here and I’m going to give everything to fight for the club and do the best possible. It’s a very unique opportunity and I’ll do the best I can.’
